|
Do not let the scammers ruin the holiday spirit. Here are few tips to keep you and your loved ones safe this holiday season.
Be mindful of “too good to be true” deals. Scammers often create fake online stores or ads with low prices. If the offer seems unreal, it probably is.
Verify Online sellers. Shop only from trusted retailers. Check reviews, confirm website authenticity and look for secure payment indicators.
Avoid Gift card payment requests. No legitimate business will ever demand payment via gift cards.
Watch for delivery scams. Fake texts, emails may claim your packages are delayed or requires extra fees. Avoid clicking links, verify with the official website.
Protect personal information. NEVER share bank details, and passwords with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
Monitor your bank statements. Check your account regularly for unauthorised charges especially after shopping or travelling.
Use strong passwords. Enable two factor authentication on shopping and bank accounts to add an extra layer of security.
Stay alert on social media. Be mindful of posts offering free gift cards, holiday giveaways, or secret Santa gift exchanges. Many are scams and they aim for your personal information.
Please do not hesitate to report any incidents or concerns you may have to the police. Your information plays a crucial role in helping us keep the community safe.
